7 Things Blogging Can Do for Your Pet Business
If there’s one thing that business owners are hesitant about when forking out marketing dollars or significant amounts of time, it’s BLOGGING.
Sure, it does require an investment, whether they’re paying someone to write posts or they’re spending extra time on their part to produce longer pieces of content.
The most common situation: They write one blog post, don’t see an increase in sales, and then think it’s not worth it!
This couldn’t be more false!!
When I first started my pet marketing business, I knew that I had to do more than invest in a website and randomly post on social media. As a digital marketer, I understand the importance of incorporating blog content on your website. And when you have evergreen content to support your business online, you’ll have an easier time marketing yourself and staying visible every single day.
I don’t think I can name one client of mine or business owner I’ve met who has consistently implemented blogging into their business and thinks it wasn’t worth the investment.
If you’re not convinced that blogging is the right route for you to take, here are 7 reasons why a blog can make or break your pet business:
You own your content
When you blog, that’s your domain. Nobody can take it from you (unlike social media – that’s right. You don’t own your social media content nor your followers)! You don’t have to worry about that when you’re blogging because it’s there to stay and can be read over and over, whereas social media content easily gets buried.
It’s a large supply of repurposed content for you.
That 600-800 word blog post can be the foundation for MANY content pieces on other platforms, whether it’s sharing the post on your Facebook page, taking a quote out of the post for Instagram, or creating graphics on the post that you can share to Pinterest, etc. You can summarize your blog post into an email. You don’t need to write a blog post, leave it on your website, and never use it again! It can be repurposed, shared, promoted, and reshared all over again. That’s the beauty of creating blog posts.
You can resonate with your customers.
Studies show that millennials appreciate authenticity and informational content. They appreciate brands that are useful. You can be useful by proving valuable content to your audience, especially overprotective and over-loving (if that’s even possible) pet parents! Not to mention the fact that now more than ever, people are researching businesses and information online before making a purchase decision. If you prove yourself to be a trustworthy and educated pet industry expert through your blogs, you’ll be seeing more online sales in no time!
You can increase the number of people that visit your site.
The more content you have on your website, the more likely it is that you’ll show up in search results. When that happens, you’ll see steady growth in your page views. The more people that see your content, the more sales – that’s a given!
Here are some reasons why Google favors websites with blogs:
- They like sites that update frequently with valuable content.
- You can increase your number of inbound and outbound links, which are links to take users to your site and vise versa. The Google algorithm values these because it shows that you’re an authority figure in your niche.
- You’ll have more opportunity to naturally plug-in keywords that relate to your business. For example, my keywords include “pet marketing services” and “pet business in San Diego.”
Build trust and transparency.
When you publish your own content, it establishes you as an expert. Your customers will have questions, and plenty of them. Imagine how easy it would be for you to send them a blog post that you wrote that can answer their question in depth. Or, when a customer searches for something more general in regards to hiring a dog trainer, and you have a blog post that answers their question, they’ll be more likely to check out the rest of your website, realize you’re a trainer near them, and want to book your services! It’s like its own sales funnel!
Plug in a call-to-action.
The CTA’s are what you use to ask your audience to take an action. On your website, it could be signing up for your email list, filling out a survey, and booking an appointment. You can also include these CTA’s within your blog posts!
CTAs don’t have to be anywhere and everywhere, but they should be strategic.
Now, this doesn’t mean that every single post needs a “Book Now” button. It should be related to the post and most of the time, the more simple the CTA is for the customer, the more likely they will take the action. A CTA can be something simple, like asking readers to follow you on social media! Sounds like an easy way to grow your following on Instagram or Facebook, right?
You can use your blog to increase sales.
When you’re strategic with your blog, you can really use it to boost your profits! You could write content that convinces your audience why they need your product or service. You could use every blog post to get readers to sign up for your email list or you could promote a product within them.
A lot of my clients originally ONLY wanted to push sales and ask customers to buy or book a service or use a coupon. But, as a smart and successful pet business owner, you actually have to give, give, give! You need to provide your audience with value first. A great way to do that is through blogging.
Your customers will have constant and easy access to it, and when you consistently publish great content, they will be more likely to come back, follow your business, and therefore, eventually make a purchase decision.
