Business Spotlight: DogiZone Training and Resort

DogiZone is a premier dog training resort, possibly the only of its kind. They offer a full arrangement of services, from dog boarding, training, and daycare, to grooming, fitness, retail, and even transportation services! This means that DogiZone can literally take care of every need your dog has — without you ever having to leave your home!

They are the unicorn of pet service businesses, offering an exceptionally high level of dog training and behavior knowledge and experience. In fact, 3 of the 5 Certified Canine Fitness Trainers in the entire state work at DogiZone.

We interviewed the mind behind DogiZone, Founder and CEO Andrew Fraser, to get insight into how DogiZone came to be and what continues to inspire their care for dogs and their people.

What inspired DogiZone?

I wanted to improve the lives of dogs and their owners. It was something I became passionate about after really struggling with my first dog that I adopted in high school. Little did I know, my relationship with my first dog would lead to me graduating a year early. I was off to dog training school in Ohio. It was there that I learned to train dogs professionally.

Since then, I have invested in seminars, workshops, organizations, coaches, and mentors. I’ve consistently focused on growing my mindset and skillset from both a business and a pet care perspective. I spent the early part of my career learning how to train dogs from several world-class dog trainers. Most recently, I was certified by the University of Tennessee as a Certified Canine Fitness Trainer.

DogiZone continues to grow as well. We are going to be opening a 5,700 square foot expansion by November 2020.

What is a typical day like at DogiZone?

We are a high energy and very active environment, always remaining constantly engaged. We are either facilitating playtimes, conducting training sessions, grooming, and more, or we are cleaning and sanitizing. Each of our staff is passionate about ensuring each dog has a safe, happy, and healthy visit.

DogiZone also has over 15,000 square feet of fenced outdoor exercise areas. This space is decked out with k9 astro turf, covered roofs for inclement weather, and cameras that allow us and guests to check in on their pups. There is a 24-hour emergency backup standby generator, so our dogs will always be kept comfortable and safe, even in the event of a power failure.

What’s one thing you wish pet owners knew about DogiZone?

We are a full-service pet care facility that can cover all of their pet care needs without having to leave your home or take your dog to multiple places.

Who are your customers at DogiZone?

Our customers range from first-time new dog owners to seasoned dog lovers who see their dog as a member of their family that live in the Maryland, DC VA area.

What matters most to you in your business?

We deliver quality and convenient service to every guest, every time. What I love about working in the pet industry is the variety of guest experiences. No dog is the same. I love working with owners to help them understand their dogs better. It’s fulfilling to see how happy people get when they can better communicate and enjoy time with their dogs. People are generally happy to come to us, unlike a doctor’s office or the auto repair shop. I have met some absolutely wonderful dog owners who are a joy to work with.

3 British Field Labrador Retrievers: Foxy, Vader, Kymber, and 1 mixed breed, Lily!
